Dr. Nick Hartnell  is a highly respected orthopedic surgeon and medical innovator who currently serves on the Board of Directors for Cartago Biotech. With extensive clinical experience, he brings a unique combination of surgical expertise, research leadership, and strategic insight to the organization.

Throughout his career, Dr. Hartnell has been deeply involved in pioneering research and the development of new orthopedic technologies aimed at improving patient outcomes. One of his most notable current research initiatives focuses on the investigation of kangaroo tendons as a potential graft source for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. 

In addition to his research contributions, Dr. Hartnell serves as the medical advisor for Australia’s only locally manufactured joint replacement system. In this role, he provides clinical oversight and expert guidance to support the development of advanced implant technologies designed specifically for Australian patients and healthcare systems. Dr. Hartnell is also the founder of the Australian Institute of Joint Replacement, based in Bowral, New South Wales. The institute is dedicated to advancing joint replacement surgery through education, research, and the implementation of innovative surgical approaches. Under his leadership, the institute has become a center for collaboration among surgeons, researchers, and medical technology developers working to improve joint replacement outcomes.
